Last week, we were delighted to host the inaugural Grand Pianothon: a live performance event that brought together pianists of all levels for an afternoon of continuous music in support of Help Musicians.
The idea behind the event was intentionally simple: to open our showroom doors, invite pianists to experience and perform on a selection of exceptional grand pianos, and use the occasion to raise funds for an important cause. Held in our central London showroom, The Grand Pianothon welcomed performers of all levels, from students and enthusiasts to more advanced pianists.
Over the course of four and a half hours, 40 participants performed a varied and thoughtfully curated programme featuring classical, romantic, modern, and contemporary repertoire.
Highlights from the afternoon included Rachmaninoff’s Élégie on the 1910 - Pleyel Modèle 3, Chopin’s Fantaisie-Impromptu on the 1924 - Cortot Pleyel, and Chopin’s Nocturne in F-sharp major on the 1896 - Pleyel Modèle D.

Hearing this repertoire performed on our restored historic Pleyel instruments was particularly special, especially given the close association between Pleyel and composers such as Chopin, who famously preferred Pleyel pianos. Carefully restored to preserve their original tonal character and playing experience, these instruments offer a rare opportunity to hear music from that era performed on the type of pianos for which it was originally written.
Alongside the historic pianos, several performers also chose to play on our new range of Pleyel, including the Pleyel P170 and the “Trocadèro”. The contemporary design of Pleyel range of new pianos and their modern interpretation of the Pleyel sound provided an elegant contrast.
Beyond the performances themselves, The Grand Pianothon also served as an opportunity to support the wider musical community. Through the generosity of performers, guests, and supporters, funds raised during the event will be donated directly to Help Musicians and their ongoing work supporting musicians across the UK. Supporting an organisation that provides practical assistance, wellbeing support, and financial help to musicians at every stage of their careers made the event especially meaningful for everyone involved.
We would like to thank everyone who took part and contributed to making the afternoon so memorable.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to concert pianist Kerry Waller for taking the time to join us and perform during the Grand Pianothon. You can check his work out through his website.
